Following are answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for the Designs to Inspire Design Scholarship Award in Melbourne.
What can I expect to learn?
Upon successful completion of this internship, you will:
- Gain a fundamental understanding of the property styling business
- Find out how to put together different looks for different properties
- Gain valuable hands-on experience with an experienced team of stylists
- Appreciation of what’s required working in a fast paced team environment
Who is the ideal candidate for this award?
We’re looking for a friendly, polite and enthusiastic team player that is hands-on and design savvy. You may be studying or completed Interior Design, have related work experience or be looking to transition to property styling at any stage of your career.
What are the requirements for this role?
You must be capable of lifting small furniture items and soft furnishings and meet our terms and conditions of entry.
What are my work hours?
You will be required on site at 9.00am – 3.00pm, 2 days per week over a minimum 4 week and max of 6 week period. The days will be mutually agreed.
How long is the scholarship?
This award entitles the recipient to a paid internship within 3 months of issue. The dates are open to negotiation to assist in fitting in with your current study or family commitments.
Where will I be working?
You will work across numerous locations including; the Designs to Inspire warehouse in Nunawading, onsite at customer’s premises across Metro Melbourne and may be required to work remotely from home. Transport to/from customer’s premises will be provided.
Will I be paid for this scholarship?
Yes. As well as receiving invaluable work experience in the creatively rewarding and fast paced environment of property styling, the successful candidate will be paid on an hourly basis of $25 per hour as a contractor. The minimum value of this award is $1200 (8 days worked over 4 weeks) and maximum value of $1800 (12 days worked over 6 weeks).
Will I incur any expenses?
The award recipient must pay for their own transportation to/from the Designs to Inspire office and their own meals. Transportation to and from clients houses are provided.
How will the shortlisted candidates be selected?
There is a 2 part selection process:
- Complete online form (Available March 13) accepting the terms and conditions of entry AND
- Get creative on Instagram. Style a corner of a bathroom, bedroom or living room and post your photo on Instagram to @designstoinspire with the tags #propertystyling, #dtiaward and #designstoinspire. A maximum of 2 entries per person accepted (only 1 photo per entry).
Please note, private accounts must be made public during the promotional period. As per Instagram rules, we must say that this promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Instagram. By entering, entrants confirm they are 15+ years of age, release Instagram of responsibility, and agree to Instagram’s term of use.
How will the winner be awarded?
Shortlisted candidates only must supply a resume and referee contact details. The winner will be selected based on your response to our question “What are your standout qualities that will make us choose you?” the creativity and style of your original Instagram post and a review of your resume and a reference check.
Must I have a license?
No, as long as you can organise your own transport to and from our office at Unit 27, 137-145 Rooks Rd, Nunawading, VIC 3130. You will be travelling to a client’s in our fleet of vehicles with an accompanying property stylist.
Is there an age restriction?
You must be of legal working age and be able to meet the conditions of entry.
When will I know if I’m a finalist?
All finalists will be announced on April 3, 2017, on Instagram.
When will I know if I have been awarded the scholarship?
The award recipient will be contacted by phone by April 8, 2017.
